C. A. Lance Piccolo is President and Chief Executive
Officer of HealthPic Consultants Inc., a strategic healthcare consulting
firm. HealthPic provides its clients a comprehensive service profile
to meet their health care challenges and opportunities.
Mr. Piccolo is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of building
strategic healthcare businesses and has a strong vision of where
the healthcare market is evolving.
Mr. Piccolo was formerly Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive
Officer of Caremark International Inc., the nation’s largest
provider of physician practice management, pharmacy benefit management,
and disease management services. In 1992, Caremark was spun-off from
Baxter International Inc., where Mr. Piccolo was Executive Vice President
and a Director. He was responsible for the bulk of domestic hospital
sales and all of the alternate site businesses.
Under his leadership, Baxter established the first home intravenous
infusion business in 1979. He assumed responsibility for the company’s
expanded alternate site operation in 1985, and has overseen its development
since then into one of the nation’s leading alternate site
businesses.
Mr. Piccolo serves on the board of directors of Crompton Corporation,
PD Insurance Holdings, Inc., American TeleCare, Benchmark Medical,
Inc., Wind Point Partners, NewBiotics, Inc., NovaMed, Inc., MedAssets,
Inc., Lake Forest Hospital Foundation, and is Vice Chairman of Caremark
Rx., Inc. He is a member of the board of trustees of the University
of Chicago Hospitals and the Kellogg Graduate School of Management
Advisory Board of Northwestern University.
Mr. Piccolo has a bachelor’s degree in science from Boston
University. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962
to 1965, attaining the rank of captain. In 1993, he received the
Marine Corps Semper Fidelis award and the FBI Marine Corps Association
award.
